The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a rigorous pre-university course of study, leading to examinations, which meet the needs of highly motivated secondary school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. Designed as a comprehensive two-year curriculum that allows its graduates to fulfill requirements of various national education systems, the diploma model is based on the pattern of no single country but incorporates the best elements of many.
The completion of the program is recognized by universities the world over. These include prominent institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Heidelberg and the Sorbonne. Successful completion of the diploma program frequently results in advanced placement and course credits.
The program also focuses on critical thought to develop students' research skills. Besides the high school IB program, it has also developed the Primary Years Program for students ages 3-12 and the Middle Years Program for students ages 11-16. The high school IB program or the "Diploma Program" is for students ages 16-19 and is the most widely offered of the three programs.

Critical Thinking
Critical thinking means 'correct thinking in the pursuit of relevant and reliable knowledge about the world.' It can also be described as 'reasonable, reflective, responsible, and skilful thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe or do.'
Critical thinking is important in academic work. We all think but much of our thinking is biased, distorted or sometimes even prejudiced. In working towards the IB diploma you should learn to pay attention to the quality of your thought and systematically cultivate critical thinking. This requires thinking about how you think while you're thinking in order to make your thinking more clear and accurate. The critical thinker is able to
- Ask important questions and formulate them clearly
- Gather and assess relevant information, interpret it using relevant criteria and come
- Well-reasoned conclusions
- Consider alternative explanations
- Communicate effectively
